It’s always wise to shop around. Remember your own bank may not provide the kind of mortgage that you require, e.g. self build, buy to rent etc.
Just because your savings are with a bank does not mean they have the right mortgage for you. Be prepared to change banks to find the best deal in the market.
It is a good idea to visit a couple of reputable mortgage advisors – be sure to choose those that do not charge a fee to you.
Do your calculations carefully – just a quarter of a percent difference on your mortgage could cost you €25,000 extra over the life of the mortgage (based on a €200K mortgage over 35 years)
Research is very important when buying a home but purchasers seem not to do the same amount of research when considering a mortgage. Some sage advice at this stage of the home buying purchase could save you thousands over the course of a mortgage.
